Google Buzz

So,

The most common thing people are saying right now....what is Google Buzz? Well, Google explains it pretty well:

So, its basically...twitter. Except its integrated into your g-mail account - thus - its easy to use - and its already "right there".

There is also a mobile version of Buzz - with Geo-location and the works:

Now for a few tips:
1. Alot of you are complaining about the "spam" it creates. Well, at the moment, the easiest way to remove that is to make an email filter with the keyword "buzz" and have it either delete or archive it.

2. Another thing, lets say....you use a program like Outlook or Thunderbird, and don't want to open a browser, browse to your normally un-used, and, therefore, un-familiar, webmail account page.
Well, you cal always send your buzz, along with the links to videos and images, to buzz@gmail.com.

Finally:
There has been a rumor going around that you should make it so that only contacts see who you are following a nd who your followers are...because anyone can see their email addresses. That is completely untrue! Do you really think that Google would be that dumb?

Also, people are complaining that , because you can follow complete strangers and they can follow you....nothing is private, so you should turn off the feature that shows who is following you. This is true...however...when it says "public" it MEANS IT! But, you can always select, for EVERY buzz, whether you want it to be public..or private!

Play it safe on the internet y'all!

New Web-Server

Just a little warning,

My current server was never meant to be permanent. Now I have the parts for a newer computer.

So, the site is probably gonna be up and down over the next few weeks.

GPC

I was cleaning, glanced at the old guitar, then my pile of old motherboards... need I say more?

The Guitar

.
The Guitar + Keyboard

.
The Guitar + Everything

I am planning on re-finishing it as the current finish is all but completely gone.

Preferably I would be getting a atom-based mini-itx mobo for this and using linux on a thumb drive.
BUT, I counted it all up and new mobo + 1gb memory + new micro powersupply would be just under a hundred dollars - A hundred dollars I need for gas and college.

Apologies

Sorry.

looking at my blog stats...I usually get about 10 hits within seconds of posting a new blog post.

When I post a new post...It automatically sends out a tweet..then a Facebook app that monitors my twitter feed sees the #fb tag and automatically posts that tweet to Facebook. And, of course...all you people who have my blog feed added to google reader etc...

With that beings said.... I just restarted my server (it IS a desktop PC, albeit a desktop made just for being my webserver)so..It builds up...what I call gunk. So after being running 24/7 for the past month (at least), I just decided to restart the computer....Right after posting a new post.

So, I am apologizing to all 10 of you who may have attempted to access my blog and got an error.

Feel free to try again now.

I am also accepting donations in the form of socket 775 motherboards and DDR2 ram for a new server. (actually..any 3/4 year old dual-core system will do nicely)

More Lightbulb Stuff

Well, i'm going to Gresham to take my CPT today.
Once I am done and home, however, I am going to be making another vase...a smaller one...for a friend. Then I will attempt to make a miniature terrarium in another one.

As far as teh bases go....I have come up with several ideas. The main one uses old Hard Drives. Either using one of the metal disks with small cork anti-slip things on the bottom..or even the metal rings that separate the disks.

I personally like the metal disks...But for the less geeky-minded..I am thinking the small separators are more pleasing to the eye.

With both ideas...you can either permanently glue the bulbs onto the stands, or just set them on top.

Pictures later today, hopefully.

Lightbulb Vase

So, I saw an article in one of the many tech news feeds I subscribe to that talked about using old lightbulbs as terrariums and other stuff. So I decided to give it a try.
Tools: Leatherman and a standard screwdriver
Time: 20 minutes
Other Stuff: i used a VERY large 300W lightbulb for my project..but any size will work.

1. The bulb

2. Pry the solder tab off the base

3. After the tab is off..use whatever tools you have and some what carefully break the black ceramic/glass

4. Insert a screwdriver into the end and break the filament tube

5. Rinse out the bulb and use salt or sand to get rid of the white coating (if any)

At this point, do whatever you want with the bulb. I decided to make it into a vase.

Unfortunately..the rocks themselves wouldn't hold the bulb upright once it was filled with water/plant. I just used a CD for the base...and have later plans to glue something permanent on the bottom.

WMP BSOD

WMP BSOD!!!!
No, not BSOD as in Blue Screen of Death, Bsod as in Black Squares of Death. You know, those random album art mess-ups in WMP, where several albums will change to a black square instead of the actual album art.

What is the cause: after a little research, it is (surprise) Internet Explorer! WMP will use IE to view the image files. People started having the problem when they installed IE7. I am still having the problem with WMP12.
I have a few solutions to this problem

1. Don't use WMP. Download Winamp (this was my personal solution - I am loving winamp very very much)
2. Use a 3rd party mp3 file picture/tag editor.
3. Several people have fixed their problem by deleting the image cache folder in the application settings folder of the user settings directory. This fixed about 5 albums for me.

I would strongly suggest using Winamp if you consider yourself anything for that a basic listen-to-music-every-so-often type computer user. The features, customization, personalization of the program far surpass WMP.
Also, it is much like an audio player version of firefox as it has many themes and plugins. because of this, Winamp can be used to manage any mp3 player......even an iPod
