GPC
I was cleaning, glanced at the old guitar, then my pile of old motherboards... need I say more?
I am planning on re-finishing it as the current finish is all but completely gone.
Preferably I would be getting a atom-based mini-itx mobo for this and using linux on a thumb drive.
BUT, I counted it all up and new mobo + 1gb memory + new micro powersupply would be just under a hundred dollars - A hundred dollars I need for gas and college.
1st Week of College
Now that I'm done with my homework for the week (well, I left some reading for tomorrow), I am able to sit back and reflect on this first week of college.
The drive there isn't all that bad, about a 20 minute drive if it's dry, 30-35 if its wet. I really enjoy driving in general, so, even if it was longer I wouldn't mind.
Parking: I have learned to skip the front entrances and park WAY in back. On Monday and Wednesday morning, I spent about 10 minutes searching for a spot...only to end up in the same place each time.
Classes:
CIS120 (Computer Concepts 1) I pretty much know everything in the textbook for this class, but, I enjoy talking and discussing tech, no matter how much I know about it. I am aslo hoping that there will be plenty of small bits of info I didn't already know.
MTH60 (Beginning algebra 1) So far, quite easy. I was expecting it to be easy as I am mainly taking this for review, I expect it to be a bit harder by the end of the term.
BUS101 (business overview) As my teacher put it "we will be covering miles of information only an inch deep".
Computer Careers Exploration - so far only a really simple task of saving a doc to disk, adding my name to it, and uploading it to the course website.
CIS120L (Lab portion of CIS120) - meets for the first time this Tuesday.
So far so good, not too much homework. I met someone I know on campus on monday.
That's all for now -
Apologies
Sorry.
looking at my blog stats...I usually get about 10 hits within seconds of posting a new blog post.
When I post a new post...It automatically sends out a tweet..then a Facebook app that monitors my twitter feed sees the #fb tag and automatically posts that tweet to Facebook. And, of course...all you people who have my blog feed added to google reader etc...
With that beings said.... I just restarted my server (it IS a desktop PC, albeit a desktop made just for being my webserver)so..It builds up...what I call gunk. So after being running 24/7 for the past month (at least), I just decided to restart the computer....Right after posting a new post.
So, I am apologizing to all 10 of you who may have attempted to access my blog and got an error.
Feel free to try again now.
I am also accepting donations in the form of socket 775 motherboards and DDR2 ram for a new server. (actually..any 3/4 year old dual-core system will do nicely)

Ok, so for those of you who don't know, I am going to start taking classes at MHCC this winter (jan 4/5 to be exact).

Web development/authoring/english comp/Win OS/Win Server/VOIP/WAN/Unix/Linux management and more!
I am definitely looking forward to all the techy classes...math not so much (but hey..beginning algebra and alg2...cant be THAT bad can it? - yeah, it probably can - only need a C to pass though...)
More Lightbulb Stuff
Well, i'm going to Gresham to take my CPT today.
Once I am done and home, however, I am going to be making another vase...a smaller one...for a friend. Then I will attempt to make a miniature terrarium in another one.
As far as teh bases go....I have come up with several ideas. The main one uses old Hard Drives. Either using one of the metal disks with small cork anti-slip things on the bottom..or even the metal rings that separate the disks.
I personally like the metal disks...But for the less geeky-minded..I am thinking the small separators are more pleasing to the eye.
With both ideas...you can either permanently glue the bulbs onto the stands, or just set them on top.
Pictures later today, hopefully.
Lightbulb Vase
So, I saw an article in one of the many tech news feeds I subscribe to that talked about using old lightbulbs as terrariums and other stuff. So I decided to give it a try.
Tools: Leatherman and a standard screwdriver
Time: 20 minutes
Other Stuff: i used a VERY large 300W lightbulb for my project..but any size will work.
2. Pry the solder tab off the base

3. After the tab is off..use whatever tools you have and some what carefully break the black ceramic/glass

4. Insert a screwdriver into the end and break the filament tube

5. Rinse out the bulb and use salt or sand to get rid of the white coating (if any)

At this point, do whatever you want with the bulb. I decided to make it into a vase.

Unfortunately..the rocks themselves wouldn't hold the bulb upright once it was filled with water/plant. I just used a CD for the base...and have later plans to glue something permanent on the bottom.
Grandma Gollehon's Death
My grandma, Mary Gollehon, Died overnight last night in her sleep. She had been on hospice for several weeks after being sent home from the hospital where nothing could be done. She was suffering from fluid in lungs and heart problems. The Docs said that any surgery would probably kill her.
We are going out there sometime today. Prayers for the family, especially my grandpa.
We are not certain of her salvation, but she had been attending a small local church for the past few months. She also requested to talk to their pastor and friend about a week ago.
Physical Labor Hints
The Job position I currently hold is a part-time job as a "clean up guy" for my dad's Landscaping buisness. Basically, pure Physical labor for 3-8 hours a day / 3-5 days a week.
I have found a few things that Help to keep me going on the long days.
1. Water: Drink it!
2. I have a 2qt. Mil-issue canteen. In order to make water more interesting, I will often pour a little OJ or Coffee or "
soft drink mixes" into the canteen with the water.
3. Music: I am continually listening to my MP3 Player while I am working (only 1 earbud though and not loudly! - dont wanna get smashed by falling limbs!)
4. Pace yourself: Find ways to better use your energy. IE: Make one trip to the truck with lots of branches/debris rather than 45 small trips.
5. Last yet certainly not least... CANDY!!! I basically bring a pocketfull of hard candy with me. Sucking on one every so often can really keep your mind off the heat/cold/pain/etc etc.
I Changed my Blog Title
I just changed my Blog title - why?
Well, when I first built this blog and added content, it was mainly just my apologetics work and other things of the same general content.
Now - I have techy stuff, political stuff, will still add some personal blog - type stuff, and probably more school-related entries when I start taking classes later this year.
So, when reading the last 10 or so blog entries - the name did not make ANY sense!
Twitter Tools
Just a little fun thing I am now using.
Check out the Twitter Tools plugin for wordpress. Both shows your tweets in the wordpress sidebar and also tweets a link to your newest blog posts.
